If they have a book you ever wanted to read in their library simply just message them and ask if you can lend it - instead of buying the same book for yourself.
Virtual Bookshelf also includes the latest New York Times bestseller lists to stay up to date with what is going on in the world of books - btw you'll get to see if one of your friends has bought the book already so maybe no need to buy is yourself ;)
